Some 14 families are projected to get assistance from a $700,000 grant awarded to Shasta Lake City for basically “buying down” the mortgage to make it more affordable. Buyers will need a downpayment of 3% to buy, but the assistance will allow them to buy more house than they might otherwise. It’s a terrific program for those who qualify.

There are other similar programs for Redding, Anderson, and Shasta County, but as far as we know, only Shasta Lake is getting funded.
